A day of gloomy weather, photowalk, latte, and booze.

It was a gloomy Saturday afternoon when I decided to go for a photowalk around the campus; sun behind the sea of gray clouds, wind was cold, and the annual UPLB Christmas decors were up. Suddenly the rain poured down and stopped me from doing my catharsis. I headed back to Elbi Commons and salvaged what I got from my very quick photowalk while drinking my favorite matcha latte. All is good, but when you have a gloomy weather, had a good time with friends the day before playing volleyball, and your most trusted pal is out of town, I couldn't help but feel the urge to be with a friend's company.

Luckily, as if I attracted the universe to, a friend of mine asked me to hang out. Asking where he was, he said he was writing his journal... in a bar... with a classic ice cold pale. I couldn't explain better how laidback life in UPLB can get - something that I really miss after pursuing life in MNL.

So I came over to have a drink or two with him while we have a chitchat of our status in life, and anything that a two person experiencing quarter life crisis could talk about. We had the usual exchange - how's life? are you happy where you at now? where do you want to settle for good? where do you see yourself 5 years from now? would you rather be poor but love what you do, or be rich but hate what you do? what are you saving up for? how do you keep up with stress? is everything worth it? growth or comfort? The list of life pondering questions went on and on. Time went by so fast, the clock struck 12:00, the desire for company already subsided so we went our separate ways and called it a day. Such is time when you're with good company.

Before going to bed, I tried to comprehend everything that transpired. What I realized is that, what makes Elbi home is the people, not the place. I can imagine five to ten years from now, when most of my friends leave Elbi for good, Elbi wouldn't be the same place I would eagerly wanna go home to. If it weren't for friends and family, and all the memories that we made, I wouldn't even call Elbi home.

So here's my take away -
When you're struggling to search for a place you can call home, don't look for a place, find it in people.
